On 21 June 2000, the first day of summer, uwstudent.org received its letters patent (like articles of incorporation) from the Ministry of Consumer and Commercial Relations Companies Branch.

Now what has existed in our minds and on our computers takes on a new existence. Now uwstudent.org has come into being as a legal entity and henceforth shall be referred to as "The uwstudent.org Media Corporation."

uwstudent.org will be a not-for-profit with all uwstudents as members. The uwstudent.org mission and the corporate objects are listed below:

We will deliver news and information that meet a standard of excellence. We will seek to continually innovate and improve upon all of our endeavours. We shall always act in the service of students and provide students with opportunities for participation.

Objects of Incorporation
The uwstudent.org Media Corporation

The establishment and operation of a media organisation for the purposes of

A Disseminating news and information to University of Waterloo students and the University of Waterloo community

B Providing for the participation of members of the corporation in the creation of content, ideas and information

C Exploring and utilizing conventional and new media and related technologies and studying the impact and role of these in society

D Educating and training participating members in media and its related technologies

E Assisting and collaborating with other student media organisations in activities consistent with the objects of the Corporation

and such other complementary purposes not inconsistent with these objects
