Contacted lawyer to draft letter to University regarding our concerns.
Specifically the believed violation of the agreements, lack of communication
and unwillingness to provide us with details we feel we are legally entitled
to, and the blocking of our ability to hire a full-time manager for
Federation Hall. We stated our expectation of their immediate removal from
our operations and to relinquish control back to the Feds and to operate
under the agreement in place. Letter also indicated that our lawyer would be
away until January 27, 2003.

January 17, 2003
Received a request for Brenda and Chris to meet with Amit Chakma on the 20th
at 10am. Initially this request was agreed to. Upon discussion with the GM
and all executive, we agreed that we should not meet unless we had access to
counsel and we were given an agenda. When this request was made (to move the
meeting date and that we receive an agenda) we were told that we didn't need
an agenda and that if we refused to meet with them immediately, that Amit
would have to make a unilateral decision. We also became aware that this
meeting was to occur with other parties present (Lois Claxton and Denis
Huber). We offered to meet later that day, or later in the week, but were
met with refusal and told we would be receiving a letter by the end of the
day outlining his decision.
Received letter later that day from Amit indicating that our ability to
serve alcohol in our establishments was being indefinitely suspended at
midnight on January 20th. We advertised this situation to students, hoping
for their support at the Bombshelter that night. At approximately 6 pm, the
University (Bud Walker, Mark Murdoch and UW Police) closed the doors of the
Bombshelter and sent everyone home, stating safety concerns.
Sent letter from lawyer indicating our desire to have a meeting with our
lawyer present.
