Fed Hall plans include showing live World Cup matches

Along with its annual Summerfest I and Summerfest II parties at Fed Hall, Feds is also planning to show live matches from this year's World Cup.

Coinciding with the beginning of the World Cup championships on Friday 9 June, Feds plans to open up Fed Hall during the day to show the live game inside while doing a barbecue outside on the patio. The first match is at 6:00 pm German time, noon locally; Doors at Fed Hall are set to open at 11:00 am.

Feds VPAF Renjie Butalid said that "the plans are not 100% definite" but will happen pending confirmation from Rogers Cable that it is possible to get a live feed of the match to Fed Hall. He said if the plans do go through, they will show the game on the indoor projection screen as well as two other TVs and possibly a patio TV.

Although it is still unconfirmed, Butalid said that "the operations will most likely be like Bomber during the day" with food and beverages, including alcohol, being served from the kitchen.

In the case that the games cannot be shown at Fed Hall, Butalid said that Feds will work with the university to try to show the games in the SLC Great Hall so that "there will definitely be a hub for students to go to to watch the football games on campus."

Butalid said that whether Fed Hall would be open on other days to show more World Cup games would depend on the success of the first day, but he said that he'd like to be able to also "show matches for teams such as South Korea, one of the major demographics here at UW" with a team in the World Cup.

Butalid said that Fed Hall will be focusing on catering a lot this summer and that aside from Summerfest I and Summerfest II there are currently no other events planned but will look into other possible ideas.

Summerfest I, taking place Saturday 10 June will have a "Wild West" theme. Feds Special Events Assistant Erin O'Leary said that "you won't recognize Fed Hall." She said that there will be a variety of prizes including three gift certificates for a 1-hour horseback trail ride from Conestogo River Horseback Adventures and that "it definitely won't be all country music" but they will likely play a number of country hits.

The theme for Summerfest II, scheduled for Saturday 15 July, is "Xtreme Summerfest." Details of the theme are still under works.
