Grad House moving to only microbrewery beer
Grad House is moving away from serving beer from both major breweries and microbreweries to only microbrewery beer.
The pub run by the Graduate Student Association will continue to serve Guinness Stout made by Guinness and Co. from Ireland, but that will be its only major brewery offering.
Otherwise it will only serve beers from local breweries like Wellington Brewery in Guelph, Steam Whistle Brewing in Toronto, MIll St. Brewery also in Toronto, and Brick Brewing Company on King Street in Waterloo.
GSA President Marek Ratajczak said of the change, "it fits better with the culture of the Grad House."
Grad House is a members-only club. University of Waterloo graduate students pay a refundable $12 membership fee with their school fees; others can buy a $15 membership.
Now that Molson owns Creemore, they carry it at the Bomber, but now it's probably harder for Grad house to get.
There is still a big selection of beers from craft brewers in Ontario. We even have the original in town with Brick:
In 1984, Jim Brickman was the first craft brewery to start up in Ontario, and is credited with pioneering the present day craft brewing renaissance in Canada. Soon after, several other independent breweries joined the movement with a focus on hand-crafted beers. These audacious brewers were determined to prove that Canadian beer drinkers were ready for something that had been missing for over 60 years: better taste and variety.
